Dave's Defib

Fundraising for AED’s to be installed across as many Biker hot spots in Wales and across the UK as possible!

Dave’s Defib – What It Is

Dave’s Defib is a community-led initiative based in South Wales, dedicated to raising funds to purchase and install Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at biker-friendly venues and other high-risk rural locations across Wales and the wider UK.

The project is powered by the biker community, with strong online support, fundraising efforts, and people coming together to help make the roads and meeting places safer for everyone.

How & Why It Started

In August 2024, David Jones (“Dave”) was out riding his motorcycle near Owl’s Nest in Llandovery when he suffered a heart attack. During the incident, helpers realised the nearest defibrillator was not quickly accessible — it was on a fire engine, not right there on site where it could save precious minutes.
Dave was eventually brought to hospital after friends transported him because emergency services were delayed. He survived the heart attack and had a stent fitted, but sadly passed away a few days later.
This experience inspired his friends and community to launch a campaign in his name to place AEDs where bikers and travellers might need them, starting with The Owl’s Nest and moving outward. Dave supported the idea before he died, and his partner and friends carried it forward with passion.

Where Defibs Have Been Installed

So far through community fundraising (including work with the charity Make Your Mark), multiple AED units have been funded and installed at key biker stops:

The Owl’s Nest in Llandovery
Baffle Haus in Abergavenny
M&P Cardiff in Cardiff
The Whistlestop Café in Rhyl
HR4K in Hereford

…and these early installations mean the project isn’t just local — it’s already spread across South Wales, North Wales, and into England

There are regular updates shared by the team as new installation dates are confirmed. On Dave’s Defib Facebook

Other Important Details:

💷 Cost & Fundraising:
• Thanks to volunteer electricians and discounted equipment from partners, each AED installation costs around £1,200 once purchased and fitted.
• Originally set up on JustGiving by organiser Ali Brooks-Davies, the campaign raised over £2,100 just in early stages for initial locations.

🌍 Expansion:
• Dave’s Defib is now working with the charity Make Your Mark to grow the campaign beyond its beginnings in Wales and into a UK-wide effort, aiming to continue installing AEDs wherever they can make a difference

👥 Training & Community:
• Beyond putting machines in place, the group also shares free AED and CPR training with local residents or community groups so people feel confident to use the life-saving kits when needed

How you can help?

Chuck in a donation, every pound helps and every bit counts. Or grab a piece of Dave’s Defib merch and wear it with pride. Every purchase helps put more defibs where riders and communities need them most.

Ride together. Look out for each other. Save lives.

Why This Matters:

AEDs can dramatically increase survival rates in cardiac arrest, using one within minutes can make all the difference.
Dave’s Defib takes a heart-led, rider-friendly approach to making rural and bikers’ routes safer and giving confidence to communities that help is closer than they think.
